Brian McKnight and Chante Moore among headliners Radio station 94.7 The Wave has secured an all star line-up that could propel the third annual ‘Taste of Soul’ street festival Oct. 18 to eclipse its record attendance of more than 75,000 in 2007. “I believe that anytime you can join forces with the Sentinel for an event, especially ‘Taste of Soul’ it offers you a unique strategic branding alliance that cannot be matched with anyone else,” said The Wave account executive Ron Turner. Sentinel President and Executive Editor Danny Bakewell Jr. called the alliance with 94.7 The Wave, “a special media partnership that allows for the many at ‘Taste of Soul’ to be the beneficiaries of a remarkable day that will leave a lasting impression for friends and families for years to come.” Scheduled to perform on The Wave Stage on Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. is Wave radio personality and acclaimed R&B singer and songwriter, arranger and producer Brian McKnight. McKnight, who is a co-host of the morning show with Pat Prescott, has a unique style that has allowed for him to become a star in pop and soul with such recent hits as “Gemini,” “Life Has Changed” and among many others “Love Is,” a duet with Vanessa Williams. Also slated to make her ‘Taste of Soul’ debut is the sensual Chante Moore, a star on the R&B scene for more than 15 years beginning with her debut smash “Love’s taken Over.” Moore has flourished into an accomplished female favorite. Billboard singles like ‘It’s Alright,’ ‘This Time’ and the top two smash ‘Chante’s Got a Man’ helped put her name on a short list of artists known for consistency. After recording two duet projects with fellow R&B vocalist Kenny Lattimore (also her husband of six years) and achieving regard in the gospel world, the Grammy-nominated vocalist returned to the solo spotlight with her new CD, ‘Love the Woman.’ McKnight and Moore are just a delicious sampling of what ‘Taste of Soul’ will unveil on that memorable third Saturday of October, but they are just two of many appetizers on the menu that will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 6p.m. Returning again to ‘Taste of Soul’ will be acclaimed and award winning culinary artist, author and television host G. Garvin. Garvin’s presence at the event has garnered overflow attention and he will cover a variety of secrets of his success as one of America’s top chefs. Making his ‘Taste of Soul’ debut will be the famous Charles Wright and his 103rd Street Band, revisiting the roots of the blues and reminding African Americans about the significance of blues in our musical heritage. American violinist Karen Briggs will be also making her first appearance at the largest street festival in the history of Los Angeles. Briggs, a native of Manhattan, New York won amateur night at the legendary Apollo Theatre four times before she embarked on a professional tour that began with ‘Soul II Soul.’ She has performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall and with a number of recognizable artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Stanley Clarke and Diana Ross to name a few. Instrumentalist will not be in short order at ‘Taste of Soul’ as ever evolving pianist/composer Kevin Toney will also make his debut on The Wave Stage. Toney’s latest accomplishment, ‘A Grateful Heart, Kevin Toney Solo,’ speaks to the spirit long before the ear responds in an exquisitely simple beauty of piano solos. Others scheduled to perform are Ray Fuller, the extraordinary Lina and many others.
