He’s so deeply rooted into the soul culture that many of his songs express such delights as cornbread, fish and collard greens, a young man who recorded two albums that went unreleased including “Ain’t Nobody Worryin’ Now.” The unorthodox and highly acclaimed Anthony Hamilton, who began singing in a Charlotte, N.C. church choir at the age of ten, will be making his Compton debut at the annual Summer Soul Jam concert series on August 16 at Par Three Golf Course. Hamilton toiled in the background performing backup for the legendary Tupac and then Eve, before he was finally signed to a recording contract by Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label in 2003. The rest, as they might say is history, as Hamilton has since skyrocketed up the musical charts and is universally in great demand as a soulful classic R&B artist. He just made what was already a red-hot ticket with Tisha Campbell Martin, Rickey Minor & Band, Charlie Wilson of the Gap band and Barbara Morrison and The Blues Mama’s, a must have ticket. Meanwhile, Hamilton’s wife, singer Tarsha McMillan Hamilton will also perform. McMillan Hamilton’s new single “Second to Nothing” can be heard on her MySpace page. Sponsored by the Los Angeles Sentinel and Radio Free KJLH, Summer Soul Jam is being hosted by The City of Compton and Councilman Isadore hall III and Holly Robinson-Peete. Tickets are moderately priced at $60 for VIP and $35 for general admission and are available at Ticketmaster or www.ticket master.com, or (213) 480-3232, The City of Compton (310) 605-5500 and KJLH (310) 330-2200. Hamilton is obviously the most recent big star to be announced for the concert, but he will certainly not be the last. |
