CNS - More than $4.5 million in grants will be awarded to nonprofit arts organizations throughout the county by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. The two-year grants, part of the commission’s Organizational Grant Program, will be given to 155 groups that will serve an estimated 9 million people in the upcoming year, according to the commission.

“These grants benefit the entire community,” said county Supervisor Yvonne Burke.

“This support provided to the 155 groups has ramifications way beyond their walls in terms of free access to events, arts education programs building well-rounded individuals and performances and exhibitions that help bring diverse cultures together,” she said.

The amount of the grants ranges from several $4,000 awards to a $374,400 award that will be given to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Of the awardees, 31 will be receiving grants for the first time. In addition, 159 organizations are receiving the second installment of two-year grants that were awarded last year, bringing the total of art organizations receiving county funds to 314.
