The California Christian Leadership Conference (CCLC) was recently established as the umbrella organization for the California Chapters of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Rev. Eric P. Lee was elected Chairman/President of the CCLC. Pamela Campbell was appointed Executive Director and Rev. Dr. Anthony Wallace, Director of Coalitions.

There are currently eight California SCLC Chapters, projected to be ten by the end of this year. The newest SCLC chapters are in Sacramento with Rev. Dr. Anthony Wallace, and San Francisco/Oakland with Bishop Ismael Burch. Dr. Wallace also serves as Pastor of New Direction Christian Center in Sacramento. Bishop Burch serves a Pastor of St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church San Francisco, CA. The other SCLC California Chapters are Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Victorville and Riverside.

The focus of the California Christian Leadership Conference (CCLC) will be to leverage the collective representation of each California SCLC Chapter in combating the social and economic injustices that continue to hinder individuals from achieving freedom, dignity, equality and respect. CCLC will also seek to build coalitions with the faith based community, labor unions and community based organizations.

Rev. Eric P. Lee states that "there continues to be areas of injustice that remind us the work began by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is yet unfinished." He goes on to say that "there are tremendous disparities in wealth, education, healthcare and employment that need to be addressed."

The California Christian Leadership Conference (CCLC) is headquartered in the Los Angeles Chapter of SCLC, while the state office will be run by Pamela Campbell in Sacramento. Ms. Campbell envisions that "CCLC will play a critical role in bringing the issues of poverty to the attention of elected official such that public policy may be enacted to enhance the quality of life for all people."

CCLC is looking to having their first event in Sacramento in the first quarter of 2009. The three major issues that CCLC will address are healthcare, leadership development and public policy. For more information about the California Christian Leadership Conference (CCLC), you may contact Pamela Campbell at 916-736-2310, or visit the CCLC website at www.caleadershipconference.org.
