The Los Angeles District Conference kicks-off on Thursday, February 9, and Presiding Elder Wendell M. Oldham will convene Christian Methodists representing ten local churches for worship, instruction and business sessions.

Pastor Byron L. Smith Sr., and Curry Temple C.M.E. Church will host the annual meeting, which continues through Saturday, February 11, at its edifice located at 322 West Rosecrans Avenue in Compton. The theme is ‘Working Together to Make Our Churches Essential.'

On Thursday, the Communion/Missionary Service will be held at 7 p.m. Billye Jackson is the District Missionary President and Linda Bailey is the host president.

Elder Oldham will officially open the conference on Friday with registration at 8 a.m., and business sessions at 9 a.m. Also, an appreciation banquet will be held at 7 p.m., for Elder and Mrs. Oldham who also serve as pastor and first lady of Lewis Metropolitan C.M.E. Church.

Saturday's agenda includes an outing for young people at KDB Gameworks in Long Beach. The event starts at 8 a.m.

The L.A. District is part of the Southern California Region of the Ninth Episcopal District of the C.M.E. Church. Bishop James B. Walker is the presiding prelate of the Episcopal District.

In addition to Lewis Metropolitan and Curry Temple, participating pastors and congregations are Rev. Julio A. Andujo of Hays Tabernacle and Corona Mission, Rev. Marrix Seymore of Amos Temple, Rev. U. L. Butts of Phillips Chapel, Rev. Terry T. Tapley of Greater Phillips Chapel, Rev. Billy Bohannon of Christ Temple, Rev. Erick L. Carpenter of Brown Temple, Rev. Charles Cole of Lewis Chapel, and Rev. Michael Wade of St. Paul.
