California Coalition of Religious and Social Conservatives Plan to Fight Same Sex Marriages in November

AP- A coalition of religious and social conservative groups is attempting to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine California’s current laws banning gay marriage in the state constitution.

The California Supreme Court has overturned a gay marriage ban in a ruling that makes the nation’s largest state the second one to allow gay and lesbian weddings.

The justices ruled 4-3 to overturn the ban. Chief Justice Ron George wrote the opinion.

In San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco’s month-long same-sex wedding march.

The case before the court involved a series of lawsuits seeking to overturn a voter-approved law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. With the ruling, California could become the second state after Massachusetts where gay and lesbian residents can marry.

California already offers same-sex couples who register as domestic partners, the same legal rights and responsibilities as married spouses, including the right to divorce and to sue for child support. It’s therefore unclear what additional relief state lawmakers could offer short of marriage if the court renders the existing ban unconstitutional.

The Secretary of State is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signatures to quality the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states.

Is your church ready to perform same sex marriages?   Take the pole

We shouldn't be so worried about what gay people are doing in their bedrooms. I don't agree with the lifestyle, but I do think they should be able to live their lives. I only take acception when kids are involved. Kids should not be influenced by this alternative lifestyle.

I might not like the lifestyle, but to go to this extent might be overkill. Maybe we whould rename the union to something other than marriage. Marriage is universally considered a relationship between men and women.

There are two types of marriage. Civil marriage and church marriage. You can't have a church marriage without a civil marriage certificate, but gays and lesbians aren't insisting that churches must marry them. What I find ironic is that people who are virulently anti-gay marriage aren't campaigning to outlaw straight divorce and to limit marriage only to couples who procreate. I guess bellowing to anyone who will listen about protecting the "sanctity" of marriage is a smokescreen.

I've got to agree with the first poster: I don't care what others do in the privacy of their own bedroom. I certainly don't want to know how freaky (or not) the rest of you are. Of course the ones who protest the loudest probably don't get any at all......ever!! Sitting at the computer in your boxers eating Cheeto's and ranting about everyone else isn't too attractive to members of the opposite sex OR the same sex!!

Protesters: Stop protestin' - start procreatin' !!! It'll put a smile on your face

Those who argue in favor of same-sex marriage have yet to convincingly prove their case. Marriage is a God-ordained institution according to Genesis 1:27-28, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” Clearly, one of the primary purposes for marriage is procreation. How will two men or two women be fruitful and multiply? Even if they argue that a same sex couple can adopt, they would still have to agree that it was necessary for two people of the opposite sex to “be fruitful and multiply” for there to be a child for them to adopt. The ACLU, who took the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to court over a cross on the County Seal—that most people didn’t even know was there—arguing a separation of church and state is now conspicuously silent. Where are they when the state, the legislature and the judiciary, are meddling in the business of one of the basic institutions of the church—marriage?

Same sex marriage...not. Man was made to love a woman. Years ago (3 decades) if this subject came up, those who was involve in the discussion was ask to seek psychiatric help. But as the song says "Its your think, do what you want to do, I can't tell you who to sock it to.
