National City of Opportunity Initiative launched recently will target South Los Angeles, South Bay and Gateway cities.Â
Los Angeles, South Bay City and Gateway City Leaders Join Millennium to Launch Historical National City of Opportunity Initiative
Seward Urges City Leaders to Push it to the Limit
Highly-Acclaimed celebrities, supporters, and a sea of city leaders representing Los Angeles, South Bay Cities, and Gateway Cities joined Millennium Momentum Foundation, Inc. National spokesperson and actress Tatyana Ali on Saturday, August 22, in Hollywood Hills, to launch the organization's historical National City of Opportunity Initiative, a national public-private partnership initiative that promotes and funds financial aid, leadership development training, and mentoring for high school seniors, career-oriented youth (ages 18-24), and college students from low income backgrounds in targeted cities around the nation.
The Southern California Initiative Fall Track will target South Los Angeles, South Bay Cities & Gateway Cities from September 2009 thru February 2010. Fueled by recent studies revealing that the Baby-Boomer generation in today's workplace will soon be retiring across the United States, the National City of Opportunity Initiative positions cities across the United States to ensure that systemic efforts are in place to train, mentor, and employ the next generation of employees that will reinvest their education and practical skills in local cities as future nonprofit organization administrators, public policy officials, government employees, public affairs & community relations executives, social service providers, and more.
"You have kids from all of the different cities that make up this wonderful state who want to making giving back their vocation, and they need your support", said Tatyana Ali, Actress & National Spokesperson for Millennium Momentum Foundation, Inc.
Among others in attendance from partnering cities, entertainment, and the community were Carson Mayor Jim Dear; Cal State University, Dominguez Hills President and Initiative Co-Chair Dr. Mildred Garcia; Carson Mayor Pro Tem Lula Davis-Holmes; Gardena City Councilmember Ron Ikejiri; Actress Tiffany "New York" Pollard; Award-Winning Actress Elise Neal; Highly-Acclaimed Producer & Actor Bill Duke; Signal Hill Vice Mayor Ed Wilson; American Society for Public Administration - Los Angeles Chapter President Stacy Mungo; Compton Mayor Eric Perrodin; Compton City Councilmember Lillie Dobson; Compton Mayor Pro Tem Yvonne Arceneaux; Compton City Councilmember Barbara Calhoun; Inglewood School Board Member Trina Williams; Compton School Board Member Micah Ali; Manhattan Beach Mayor Pro Tem Mitch Ward; Lawndale City Councilmember Robert Pullen-Miles; Deputy Chief of Staff Eric Brown representing Los Angeles City Councilmember Janice Hahn; Housing Authority CEO Rudy Montiel; and several others.
Some of the other Southern California Initiative strategic corporate, education, and community partners include Union Bank, Southern California Edison, City Club on Bunker Hill, American Society for Public Administration - Los Angeles Chapter, Loyola Marymount University, Cal State University Dominguez, UCLA, Pepperdine University, USC, and others.

With this in mind, I need you all to push it to the limit to open doors in your cities for those young people that want to serve their communities in the nonprofit and public sectors", said Jason L.
