The Guidance Church of Religious Science located at 7225 Crenshaw Blvd. Los Angeles, Calif., will observe Women’s Day Sunday, May 20.

Service will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a 15 minute pre-meditation period preceding the morning service.

Image The theme for this year’s observance is “Woman; Standing for Peace Transforming the World.”

The Honorable Diane E. Watson, Congresswoman for the 33rd Congressional District in the state of California will be the guest speaker.

Watson, born in Los Angeles, is a lifetime resident of the 33rd California Congressional District.

After graduating from Dorsey High School, she attended Los Angeles City College and matriculated at UCLA where she received her B.A. in education. She also holds an MA in school psychology from California State University, Los Angeles, and a PhD in educational administration from Claremont Graduate School.

Her lifetime commitment to education stems from her involvement in the Los Angeles public schools where she worked as an elementary school teacher and school psychologist.

She has lectured at both California State universities at Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Watson has served in various political statewide and national positions, including United States Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia.

During her tenure in the California State Senate, Watson became a statewide and national advocate for health care, consumer protection, women and children.

She also played a key role in the enactment of legislation to promote breast cancer research.

Presently she is the ranking member of the Government Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy and Commerce.

Her message is guaranteed to empower and give the faith lift needed to bring your life into alignment with the wonderful power inherent in all women,” said a member of Guidance.

Niki Haris will be in concert on May 20, at Guidance Church at 3 p.m. Suggested donation: $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Ardelia Gee, chairperson and members of the Women’s Day Committee is suggesting that all women wear white attire, in spirit of togetherness. “We look forward to sharing this event with all, “ she said.
