CONGRESSWOMAN RICHARDSON OPENED OFFICES IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD CITY IN HER DISTRICT

Congresswoman Laura Richardson has established a new 37th Congressional District standard by opening offices in all four of the District's cities. These offices include the main office in Long Beach and three new satellite offices in Carson, Compton and Signal Hill, which were inaugurated at a grand opening event on Saturday, December 12, 2009.

"This is the first time ever that the 37th District has had an office in every city," Congresswoman Richardson said. "The Carson, Compton, Long Beach and Signal Hill offices are each fulfilling my belief that all of our constituents should have equal access to government resources."

"For decades, the 37th District office has been located in the city where the representative resided," Congresswoman Richardson explained. "Having served at the local, state and now federal level, I have found the most important objective is to have my office and staff accessible. Many people everyday struggle on the phone to address their Medicare, Social Security, Veterans benefits and IRS issues. Now, my staff and I will be walking and bus ride distance to all of my constituents to advocate on their behalf.

"We wanted her to have an office in city hall," Compton City Councilwoman Barbara J. Calhoun said during the Compton grand opening event. "She is a fighter who believes in our city, just like the other cities that she represents.

"These openings are a commitment that I have made to each of these communities within my district, to have Congressional services available to them right in their own neighborhoods," Congresswoman Richardson added. "The 37th District staff and I are working to provide valuable information and service for those in need of assistance."

Congresswoman Richardson is a Democrat from California's 37th Congressional District. She is a member of the House Committees on Transportation & Infrastructure and Homeland Security. Her district includes Long Beach, Compton, Carson, Watts, Willowbrook and Signal Hill.
