Michael Jackson was the trendsetter of all trendsetters. When it comes to fashion and style there was no line Michael Jackson wasn't willing to cross. He tried every style and then some.
 Michael Jackson is probably most noted for his uniform flooding pants, shiny gloves, white socks and leather jacket. But it's more to the fashion icon than meets the eye. Michael Jackson was always willing to flex his style. Eccentric is an understatement. No one will ever compare to the unique style of Michael Jackson.
As far as music videos are concerned, video concepts will forever be measured to the Michael Jackson standard. I am declaring that from now on everyone refer to music videos as "Michael Jacksons." Think about it, we use the name "John Hancock" when referring to signatures so it would be fitting to forever connect Michael Jackson name with music videos. Many can recall December 2, 1983 when MTV aired Michael Jackson's 14-minute "Thriller" film for the first time. 'The Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller,' released in time for Christmas and became the largest-selling music home video ever.
In the mid-eighties music videos were looked at as bland and boring mainly displaying artists by themselves with a plain and simple backdrops. But then came the "pop king" with "Thriller" and once the public got hold of Michaels haunted fantasy, it was evident the music industry had changed forever.
Music videos have become industry standard with artist preferably big budget projects. Labels now recognize that music videos can make or break an artist's career. In order to break a hit record labels now have to break a hit video with it. Thanks to Michael Jackson pop artist now have to be the entire package. They have to sound good, look good and be able to perform. If there is anything less you are just a fly by night act. That is why the industry struggles to find talent these days.
"Thriller" came and set precedence as far as theme and execution was concerned. Before Thriller there had never been a mainstream artist to take the big screen approach and make a music video into a short film. When Thriller debuted back the eighties it was like the President of the United States was giving a speech, everyone wanted to be in front of the TV at that exact moment Thriller premiered.
