The Jenesse Center packed the house at the Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows for their annual Silver Rose Gala & Auction. The event was sold out, with VIP tickets priced at $500, and general admission at $250.

Attendees got their money’s worth, as stars came out support the Jenesse Center, which is the oldest domestic violence intervention program in South Central Los Angeles, founded in 1980 by five African American women who were survivors of domestic violence.

Jenesse Center chairperson Halle Berry, Jay Leno, Jennifer Hudson and Wanda Sykes, who was the mistress of ceremonies, were all in attendance. Leno served as the auctioneer.

Special guests included Mickey Thomas, lead singer from the rock group Starship, power attorney Gloria Allred, Hannah Montana’s Bubba Lewis, Bond girl Rachel Grant, R&B sensation Teena Marie, 80s music legend Al B Sure, actress Elise Neal from the Oscar award winning film “Hustle & Flow,” and Kym Whitley from “College Road Trip”

The tally from the live auction is still being added up, but the organizers indicated that the auction tallies so far are showing that the event was a great success.

The event was also a thank you to key leaders who made it possible, such as civil rights icon Xernona Clayton, social activist Ruth Dewson and gold trailblazer Renee Powell, all Silver Rose Honorees this year for their astounding dedication and contributions.

Law firm Greenburg Glusker and community service group The Links were also Silver Rose Honorees.

“The Silver Rose Weekend is a way to honor those individuals and institutions whose contributions enable Jenesse to provide comprehensive services that change lives,” Karen Earl, executive director of the Jenesse Center, says. “We are proud to salute those who have helped Jenesse Center provide needed services to its clients. These are the special people who unite to ensure our families and communities, heal, grow, and thrive.”
