“I have not been able to sleep, I am just so excited.” “I have been emotional since Iowa.” “I am so excited, that I am scared they just might kill him.” All of these are phrases that I have heard over the last 24 hours to describe how people feel about the campaign of Senator Barack Obama.

Never in my lifetime would I have ever thought that I would have seen so many people galvanized in support of one man. Never would I have ever thought our community would be so united in trying to bring to fruition the candidacy of a Black man as President of the United States.

Now I will be the first to admit that at some point I had my doubts. I was behind and believed in Hillary Clinton for President. But that was before I truly gave Barack a real look. Once I did that, I realized he was me. He was a father, he was a Black man trying to provide the very best for his family. He worries if his girls got sick how would he handle that (HEALTHCARE), he is the son of a single parent household (WELFARE). He finds himself wondering what will he do if he does not win this election (EMPLOYMENT). And he worries about how many people (men/women) must die before this war comes to an end (NATIONAL DEFENSE).

In the end, he worries about the same things that you and I worry about. We all have different levels of concern but in the end we all have the same concerns. Life comes at us all, it may come at different speeds but it still comes at us all.

After tonight I really don’t know how all of this electorate will ultimately end up. How can a man win more states than another but still be behind in delegates? I don’t know but I do believe in the process. I do believe that America is the greatest country in the world and I do believe that Barack has inspired a whole generation of people to get involved, to believe and to be inspired.

The Sentinel is a polling place and has been for years. I also know that I have seen more people coming in and out the doors voting than I have ever seen before. Young, old, Black, White, Latino or Asian they all have been inspired to get involved, vote and let their voices be heard.

Again, that is why I believe in the candidacy of Senator Obama. That is why even after Super Tuesday I still have faith in what we are doing and where we are going,

I just want to urge all of you to keep the faith. Don’t get discouraged, have more energy in supporting Obama than you did yesterday, and continue to keep the faith. We are close, but opportunity is never easy, it is never given to you. It is taken, it is fought for and it is never without struggle.

So lets get motivated let’s fight and let’s get Senator Barack Obama elected President of these United States.

So, whether you agree or disagree, now more than ever I really need your input. I need to hear from you. I need to know what is going on in our community. I also need to know what other stories we need to tell, and what is on your mind. I really do want to hear from you, I want you to “Talk to Danny.”
God Bless You,

Sincerely,
Danny J. Bakewell, Jr.
