Themed: “Everything’s Coming Up Roses - Celebrating 100 Years of Service with Alpha Kappa Alpha” and “Step Up to Extraordinary Service Program” (ESP), the Southern California Cluster of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, an organization of over 180,000 women, will host the 79th Annual Far Western Regional Conference in Pasadena, CA at the Pasadena Hilton, Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center, April 17-20. The Sorority was founded in 1908. This conference is one many events highlighting the Sorority’s 100th birthday. Over 1000 Alpha Kappa Alpha women and their families are expected to attend.

Led by Mrs. E. Lavonne Lewis, Centennial Far Western Regional Director, conference activities will include golf, a sightseeing and winery trip, leadership training and professional development workshops, a step show, a Gala banquet, and a Public Meeting to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. The community is invited to attend the Public Meeting on Thursday, April 17 at the Pasadena Convention Center. Admission is free. On January 15, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) commenced celebration of its 100th anniversary of the founding of the first chapter which began Jan. 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The Sorority was founded in 1908 at Howard University and has grown from nine founders in 1908 on one campus to 200,000 members at 975 chapters worldwide, with chapters in 46 states, Germany, Nassau, The U.S. Virgin Islands, Japan, and Korea and is the oldest African American Sorority in the United States.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is committed to educational, economic, civic, and intercultural activities. The organization is involved in efforts to eliminate the problems of African American youth and their families, to provide cultural enrichment in communities across the country, to address issues and concerns that impact on the quality of life, and to render assistance to global friends, especially those in African and Caribbean countries. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is particularly committed to scholarships and attempts to make a positive difference in local communities by providing “Service to all Mankind” through providing countless hours of community service.
