Mother's Day

From the day I was born I have always had an affinity, a compassion and a biasness for the strength and love of Black women in our community. My own mother, Aline Bakewell has always been first and foremost my example of the power of love for Black women and motherhood.

There are so many fabulous Black women who have graced my life and who have taught me to be who and what I am. Most of you know the role that Brenda Marsh-Mitchell has played in my life and in my family's life. Well this week Brenda had to have a serious operation, but I am proud to report that she is doing well, recovering quickly and making her way back to being as mean as ever (just kidding Bren, you know I love you).

The truth is there are so many wonderful, fabulous women who have paved the way for me, for my family for our community and on this weekend when we "honor our mothers" I want to expand it to the next level. I want to honor the wonderful, strong Black Women of our community. Mothers or not who continue to do what they do and allow us as men to do what we do. I say to you all Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for just being you and thank you for continuing to be the foundation by which all of us who are out here in the fight for a better tomorrow for our people.

Happy Mother's Day!

So, whether you agree or disagree, now more than ever I really need your input. I need to hear from you. I need to know what is going on in our community. I also need to know what other stories we need to tell, and what is on your mind. I really do want to hear from you, I want you to "Talk to Danny."

 Sincerely,

 Danny J. Bakewell, Jr.
