Local talent from Foshay Learning Center and Trinity Baptist Church reveal mural on display along Exposition Boulevard and Arlington Avenue.
More panels showcasing local talent have been added to the community art mural fence surrounding the construction field office for the Expo Light Rail Line project. Artwork by students at Tom Bradley Elementary School has been installed on the art mural fence sponsored by the Exposition Construction Authority (Expo) and its design-build contractor FCI/Fluor/Parsons (FFP).
Over the last two years, Expo and FFP have been working with local schools and faith-based organizations to design and paint art murals to display on the fence surrounding the field office located at 3792 2nd Avenue near Exposition and Arlington. Work by local youth from Foshay Learning Center and Trinity Baptist Church is on display along Exposition Boulevard and Arlington Avenue. The new addition to the art mural by students at Tom Bradley Elementary School can be seen along Rodeo Road.
The art project was embraced with much enthusiasm from the faculty and students at Tom Bradley Elementary School. "This is a wonderful project for the students and the community" said Sharon Dean, the Parent Resource Center Director.
The theme for the art mural project is the "Transit Parkway" which complements the design elements of the light rail line. By integrating station design, artwork and landscaping, the Expo Line will create a linear parkway connecting the neighborhoods in which it will travel. The project also includes improvements and upgrades for bike paths and pedestrian crossings. The art project provides an opportunity for area youth to express their thoughts and ideas on the "Transit Parkway" theme. It also provides awareness of the benefits of transit alternatives.
The Expo Light Rail Line is an 8.6 mile corridor connecting downtown Los Angeles to Culver City. Construction on the Expo Line began in October 2006 and is expected to be completed in 2010. For more information, please visit www.buildexpo.org.
