From his days as a shifting running back where his legs carried him to the coveted Heisman Trophy at USC, to his record breaking runs in piles of snow on the field for the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League and as the first Black athlete to become a national television pitchman, O.J. Simpson could never escape the spot light.

More than 13 years ago he was thrust back into the spotlight in the infamous Trial of the Century when he was accused and then acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman. Simpson was later convicted in a civil court and ordering the pay the Goldman family $33.5 million.

This week the 60-year old Simpson began to face perhaps his most severe legal obstacle when he was cleared with 10 felonies, including kidnapping, in an armed robbery of sports memorabilia collectors in a Las Vegas casino hotel room.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on the following day in a case that ranges from bizarre to just plain stupid.

According to a bevy of sources and the reliability of many of them in of great question Simpson, who was in Las Vegas to attend the wedding of a friend, was tipped by memorabilia collector Tom Ricco that two collectors were in possession of personal items that belonged to Simpson.

Even the two collectors do claim full ownership of the items in question, but based on Ricco’s information Simpson went to the hotel room at the Palace Station just outside Las Vegas in Boulder City to retrieve the items.

He was accompanied by at least four men and reportedly two were wielding a gun. Simpson had reportedly requested that Ricco tape record the collectors so that they would be caught lying on tape, but instead Ricco videotaped the episode and sold it to TMZ and then turned it over to Las Vegas Police.

The collectors in the room, who were not harmed, were expecting a buyer for the collectables, but instead got the rude awakening from Simpson.

Simpson never brandished a weapon, but is heard using profanity-laced language at the two fearful collectors.

Four other men have also been arrested along with Simpson who is being held without bail.

Clearly if Simpson is guilty of anything it is plain old stupidity, but since the nation including law enforcement is convinced that he got away with a double murder 13 years ago and cannot recharge him on that, they are sinking their teeth into what they have and hoping that something sticks so that he can be sent to prison.
