This monumental event has come to be a highly-anticipated street scene on the Crenshaw Strip that showcases the best of the community coming together to have fun in a spirit of peace, family and unity.

This year the Los Angeles Sentinel will present the third “Taste of Soul” event to be hosted by Brian McKnight and Pat Prescott, the Morning Show hosts of 94.7 the Wave, and as in the two previous years, it portends to be bigger, livelier and better. The residents, businesses and organizations in Los Angeles and beyond will come together to participate in the greatest show of the fall season.

Crenshaw Boulevard will be blocked off between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Rodeo Road and some of the feature programs will include a townhall meeting with Michael Baisden; Brian McKnight and Friends; KJLH Gospel Music; the J Spot Live Comedy on the Shaw; Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band; and Sai Whatt Band & Barbara Morrison.

The festival’s location is sandwiched within the 8th and 10th council districts, and both council

members have been ardent supporters of a “Taste of Soul” over the last two years.

Council member Bernard Parks (D-8) said, “We expect that the “Taste of Soul” festival will grow to be an even bigger attraction this year as it has become a part of the fabric of South L. A. I’m not really surprised by its success because of the involvement of Danny Bakewell, Sr., Danny Bakewell, Jr. and the Los Angeles Sentinel but it’s because of the hard work they have put forth. Their efforts deserved to be commended.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Council member Herb Wesson (D-10) added, “I was pleasantly surprised by the first and the second year; the number of people that were there blew my mind. This year, I don’t even know what to expect this time around. But it’s just a great time, the food is phenomenal, and people come from far and wide; and it’ll be a great day. I’m just happy to participate in some small way. Anytime anyone partners with the Danny Bakewell and the Sentinel, it’s an automatic winner.”

And Danny J. Bakewell, Sr., creator of a “Taste of Soul” and executive publisher of the Los Angeles Sentinel concluded, “A Taste of Soul was created to highlight the positive aspects of African American life and to encourage the enjoyment, respect and appreciation of our community and each other in an atmosphere of peace, pride and pleasure.”

The entire community is invited to participate in a “Taste of Soul.”
