Carrying on the legacy and commemorating the 41st anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., two of the regions most powerful organizations will lead a rally expected to attract thousands on Saturday April 4th.
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles (SCLC) will be joined by unions representing the local and national labor force for the "Remembering King, Realizing the Dream" march and rally scheduled for the day the renown civil rights leader was murdered.
The event is designed to call attention to and renew the focus on the need for quality jobs and education and safer neighborhoods and will take place on Saturday, April 4, at 9 a.m. beginning at Foshay Learning Center (intersection of Harvard Avenue and Exposition Boulevard) and traveling west on Exposition Boulevard to Dorsey High School (Farmdale Avenue).
"We will be talking about the same things that Dr. King lived and died for. Jobs, education and safe neighborhoods," said SCLC president The Rev. Eric Lee.
The rally will take place at Dorsey High School at 12 noon. Confirmed speakers include: California Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, Mike Garcia, president SEIU Local 1877, Faith Culbreath, president SEIU SOULA Local 2006, Mar’a Elena Durazo, executive secretary -treasurer, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, A.J. Duffy, president, United Teachers of Los Angeles, Marqueece Harris-Dawson, executive director of the Community Coalition in Los Angeles, Damien Goodmon, FixExpo.org, and the SCLC's Reverend Lee.
