Senator-elect Curren Price, the Democratic Party winner in the May 19, 2009 Special Election runoff, will take his oath of office in the State Senate Chambers on Monday, June 8 and assume his official duties and responsibilities as a member of the California State Senate representing the people of the 26th District.

Senator-elect Price has scheduled a 26th District swearing-in ceremony on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the California Science Center in Exposition Park (700 State Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90037).

Among those expected to attend Senator Price's district swearing-in ceremony are L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and Culver City Mayor Andrew Weissman.

Curren D. Price, Jr. was elected to the California State Assembly in November of 2006. Assemblymember Price represents the 51st Assembly District, which includes more than 400,000 residents in Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Playa Vista, Westchester, Lawndale, West Athens, Lennox, Alondra Park, West Compton, Del Aire, and Willowbrook; as well as portions of the unincorporated area of Ladera Heights.

Assemblymember Price is Chair of the Governmental Organization Committee. He is a member on the state Assembly Committees on Appropriations, Business and Professions, and Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet.

Assemblymember Price is Vice Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus. He graduated from Stanford University in1972 with a bachelor's degree in political science. He obtained his law degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 1976.

The 26th Senate District comprises more than 800,000 residents in the cities of Los Angeles and Culver City including the communities of Baldwin Hills, Baldwin Vista, Beverlywood, Carthay Circle, Century City, the Crenshaw District, Culver City, Hancock Park, Hollywood, Hyde Park, Jefferson Park, Koreatown, Ladera Heights, Lafayette Square, Larchmont, Leimert Park, Los Feliz, Miracle Mile, South Central Los Angeles, View Park, West Los Angeles and Windsor Hills, among others.
