Southland Gasoline Prices Fall Again

CNS--The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County fell four-tenths of a cent today to $3.127, the sixth decrease in seven days following 11 consecutive days of increases.

The average price is 1.8 cents less than a week ago and 57 cents less than at this time last year, but 9.2 cents more than a month ago and $1.321 more than at the start of the year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price fell two-tenths of a cent to $3.122, the fourth decrease in five days after increasing 11 of the previous 14 days.

The average price is 1 cent less than last week and 54.8 cents less than at this time last year, but 9.8 cents more than a month ago and $1.326 more than at the start of the year.

Prices had hit yearly highs before the recent decreases.

"It would be hard to sustain an increase like this during a time of year when demand is typically going down, rather than going up," Marie Montgomery of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.

Some analysts have attributed the declining prices to a switch from the summer blend to winter blend of gasoline, which is cheaper to produce, Montgomery said.
