In what’s believed to be the largest Black celebration in Los Angeles, the Taste of Soul also known as the party on Crenshaw returns for another successful year Saturday, October 13 from 10am to 6pm. More than 50-thousand are expected as the city prepares to shutdown “The Shaw” from King Blvd. to Rodeo – all in the name of good community fun with lots of food and world class entertainment.

“I can guarantee that this year’s “Taste of Soul” will be bigger and better,” said Danny Bakewell, Executive Publisher of the Los Angeles Sentinel. “We have worked all year to ensure that this day will provide a full day of entertainment and fellowship for the entire family.”

This week, sponsors of the event The Los Angeles Sentinel, Radio Station V100 and Mothers in Action announced some of the musical entertainment will include Soul singer Angie Stone, Rahsaan Patterson, Leon Ware, Polyester Players, and the LA Unified Multi-School Jazz Band and the Sai Whatt band. More acts will be announced in the weeks to come.

“Taste of Soul” began as a modest opportunity for local restaurants, businesses and citizens to join together in a harmonious spirit of culture. This year, several new competitions have been added to amp up the enjoyment including bid whiz and “bones” tournaments. Other festivities include a children’s world, free health screenings, art exhibits, wares and cooking demonstrations by the hottest chef on television, TV One’s Chef G Garvin and comedian J. Anthony Brown.

An elite group of Los Angeles elected officials have signed on to host the festivities in their respective districts namely 8th City Council District Bernard Parks, 10th district councilman Herb Wesson, and 2nd District Board of Supervisors member Yvonne B. Burke.
