The Greatest Ever? Jordan vs. Kobe

The Question?

What exactly defines being the greatest player ever to play the game of basketball?

Is it being the best team player ever, or is it winning the championship and being considered the best player on a championship team?

Is it scoring the winning bucket in the last seconds of the game, or is it passing up the winning attempt when you notice the double team is approaching?

050108_JordanBryantIs it taking the worst criticism anyone human being can endure, or is it proving the doubters wrong and turning harsh critics into your first team campaigners?

Is it silencing the crowd when your team is on the road, or is it making the home crowd scream so loud that they almost break a sound barrier?

Is it when you can jump so high it doesn’t look like you will ever come down, or is it when you jump with so much force you make the likes of Patrick Ewing and Dwight Howard look the size of Mugsy Bouges?

Is it putting up 63 points on the Boston Celtics and making Larry “Legend” (Bird) look silly in the process, or is it putting up 81 points on the Toronto Raptors and making an entire team look retarded in the process?

Is it being the best defender on the court, or is it having the respect of your opponent’s night in and night as the best defender in the league?

Greatness can be defined on many levels but if you ask me, greatness is when you embody all these qualities and then some. Greatness is when you make difficulty look easy.

Every human being is born with the quality to be great at something. But in order to be great at a particular art form, you have to master the art of hard work in the process. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant mastered the art of hard work which ultimately led them to be “Masters” of basketball.

Jordan and Kobe possess a unique quality of personality. To better state, Jordan and Kobe were born with a special gene that drives them to succeed. I believe Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant were born to succeed because they as individuals will settle for nothing less. Basketball just happened to be the art form for which they display their personality.

There is No Comparison!

Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are with out a doubt the greatest basketball players ever to play the game of basketball. If you think other wise your crazy or as the youngsters say today, “you are just a player hater”.

Don’t get me wrong we have seen “Greats” like Wilt Chamberlin, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Julius Erving, Jerry West, “Pistol” Pete Maravich, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird , and a slew of others I didn’t mention but pound for pound who can honestly compare to the repertoire Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant display. Lebron James might be the next up for consideration but until he reaches three rings I don’t want to hear any comparisons.

Michael Jordan has left an imprint that will never be forgotten and Kobe Bryant is in the midst of possibly leaving an even bigger imprint. We might not know until Kobe Bryant’s career is officially over and the final comparison can be made but for know we do know Kobe is on his way to a possible 4th championship ring and he looks healthier than ever.

So finally let us decide! Who is better, Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant?  Share your comments and check out the results of this weeks "Sports Poll"

Both players are awesome in there own right, but Jordan's character seemed to be so much more likable

KoBE81 - can you share whatever you've been smokin? These two cats are not even in the same league. Should never be compared.

People say that Kobe won title's because of shaq but the truth is that after a while, shaq was a lazy ass who was not dedicated and didnt train hard enough to be of any value. I'm surprised that people still think shaq was a bigger difference than MJ having Dennis Rodman and Scotty pippen.
The team Kobe has now, is the team we should use to compare Jordan and Bryant.
The truth is- jordan looks better because of his college career. Playing in college gave him 4 years of real practice for the NBA. kobe CAme out of high school for God's Sake! It took him 3 years to be a consistent starting player. He was better out of high school and had he gone to college, he'd have gotten off to a better start in the NBA and probably have 5 or 6 titles right now- If he was part of that LA team.
Bottom line- Kobe is better than Jordan- it just took longer for it to show because Jordan played in College and matured earlier than Kobe. Overall Skill goes to Kobe.

enough with the comparisons. kobe is the best player in the nba today, no doubt... but the greatest ever??? c'mon people, let's get serious. bottom line, mj's skills, competitiveness, work ethic, and socio-economical impact on the world is far more superior than kobe's. in his interview with stephen a. smith on espn, kobe said "let me do me"... go ahead buddy, cuz for damn sure you CAN'T be like mike! mj is definitely the greatest ever!

Whoo is Kobe Bryant? Did he win at least five champonship rights? I know all the great players but Kobe fans are just plain fans and are bias. Go with the stats. At the end of Kobe's Career, he is only have three champonship. Shaq was the man, Michael was the man. Shaq won a champonship without Kobe, Kobe has not. Mark my words, he will not win a 4th in 2008 versus the celtics. Jordon will always be the best player ever to play the game after Bill Russel with 11 champonship rings, Never forget the old school and legends that came before. Use the stats not because your a bias fan.

There is no comparison, michael is michael, kobe is just a clone and he immitates jordans every move. the way he talks to the media, the way he makes his fadeaway jumpshots, tongue wagging, everything he does he copied it to michael. lets face it, kobe is a good player but he doesn't have the leadership capabilities that mj had when he was still in the league. The truth is there will never be another michael jordan, but there would always be another kobe bryant. satisfied?

MJ took the NBA by storm with his unique type of game. He brought the game to another level. Kobe did not have the same level of impact with the exception of his 81 pts achievement. What separates them is how MJ handled himself with class.

Comaprision must be made on who is the person dominated the game and created such an impact, statistics is just one dimention of this comparision. People watched MJ's games with curiosity what new things he is going to demonstrate at the game, this can be a new dunk or defensive move or even pushing himself to his limits, (remember the games he went out sick, and and scored 30+), or showing leadership to his team mates on curitial moments and many more... Also, we have to look at one other angle which is his public image, the way he speaks to people and the message that he delivers the words he chooses... MJ is the original the KB is MJ wanna be... what dirves KB is to beat MJ's statistics, but what drove MJ is to be unique and he had the ability to do so. Yes KB is a good MJ replica but the original is the MJ and this is the difference. KN may be the best player today, but gretest ever, requires to create an echol... KB just doesn't have that skill or could't demonstrated yet...

yeah! kobe is the greatest player of all time..no doubt about that. he's proven last year with a 39 points deficit.
