Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa raised $1.64 million for his re-election campaign in the first six months of the year, according to campaign finance reports filed July 31 with the Los Angeles City Ethics

Commission. Villaraigosa will be seeking a second term as mayor in the March 3, 2009 primary election. Candidates for city attorney, city controller and odd- numbered city council districts will also appear on the ballot.

Five people have filed paperwork to run against Villaraigosa. Walter Moore, who finished sixth in the 12-candidate field in the 2005 mayoral primary with 2.77 percent of the vote, raised $113,734, according to the Ethics Commission. Bruce Darian collected $2,402, while the other candidates did not file financial documents.

City Councilman Jack Weiss raised $1.1 million for his campaign for city attorney, according to the commission. Attorney Carmen Trutanich brought in $439,715, and a third candidate in the race, Deputy City Attorney Michael Amerian, raised $183,610. City Council-woman Wendy Greuel raised $613,262 for her campaign to succeed Laura Chick as city controller. Greuel is running unopposed.

Six candidates are looking to fill the 5th District seat, which will be vacated by Weiss. Attorney Ron Galperin’s campaign collected $112,517, followed by Robyn Ritter Simon, president of the National Women’s Political Caucus L.A.- Westside, with $111,341. Adeena Bleich, a former Los Angeles-area director of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, raised $105,513, according to the Ethics Commission. Former Assemblyman Paul Koretz’s campaign for the council seat raised $72,310 and candidate Robert Schwartz collected $17,450. The sixth candidate did not file a financial statement. City Councilman Ed Reyes’ campaign for re-election raised $75,225.

Three candidates who completed paperwork to run against Reyes did not file financial documents. Five other council members are running unopposed but that did not stop them from raising money.

In the 3rd District, City Councilman Dennis Zine raised $107,134. Councilwoman Jan Perry, representing the 9th District, brought in $216,605.

City Council President Eric Garcetti, representing the 13th District, raised $291,484, and Councilwoman Janice Hahn in the 15th District brought in $68,095. City Councilman Bill Rosendahl from the 11th District raised $183,172 for his re-election campaign.
