West Basin Water Director Announces Candidacy for 51st Assembly District

Gloria D. Gray, Vice President of the West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors seeks the now vacant 51st Assembly District seat. Gray a former administrator of the Los Angeles County Department of Health services has also distinguished herself as an authority on water public policy issues in the Los Angeles County region. In addition to her role on West Basin Municipal Water District, Gray also serves as a member of the Metropolitan Water District. Gray was instrumental in supporting preferential points for small business to encourage local business to partner with the water districts. She was recently appointed to the LA County Clean Water, Clean Beaches Taskforce by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.

A community organizer, Gray has been involved in numerous activities in her community including: Past President, Inglewood Unified School District Board of Education, former LA County Healthcare Commissioner, Inglewood Unified School District Personnel Commission for Classified Employees, SEIU 721 Member, LAX Community Advisory Committee, Los Angeles County Democratic Party Central Committee, Inglewood Leadership Council, Inglewood Women of Vision, Black Women's Forum, Emily's List, Faithful Central Bible Church and New Frontier Democratic Club.

"I am prepared to tackle California budget priorities because of my experience at both the local and regional levels of government. California's vulnerable citizens must have healthcare. We must ensure the continuation of funding for Healthy Families, In Home Support Services (IHSS), Adult Day Care and HIV Aids assistance. In addition, we must provide adequate resources to increase the academic achievement of our students," Gray added. "California needs independent thinkers who know the value of protecting our safety net. I am that independent voice from the 51st Assembly District, Gray revealed.

"I will always fight to improve the quality of life for residents in the South Bay. My goal is to continue working on a commitment to healthcare, education, economic development, the environment and public safety issues within our region," Gray remarked.

Gray earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration at the University of Redlands. She has the following certifications: Health Services Management, UCLA; Louis Allen Management, LA County Health Services; Masters in Governance, California School Board Association; Leadership in Management, Special District Local Government Institute.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger scheduled the 51st Assembly District Special Election for Tuesday, September 1, 2009. The District is the home of many diverse communities such as Hawthorne, Lawndale, Inglewood, Lennox, South Central LA, Westchester, Gardena, Willowbrook, Playa Vista, and parts of Ladera Heights and West Compton.
