Actress Nia Long has been cast as the third of four female leads in Tyler Perry‘s next movie “Single Mom’s Club,” joining Perry, William Levy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Zulay Henao.
In addition to writing, directing and producing, Perry is expected to star in the film, which follows a group of single mothers from different walks of life who are brought together by an incident at their children’s school. They bond and create a support group that helps them find comedy in the obstacles of life, as well as their inner strength to overcome their personal challenges.
Long will play the mother to a character played by her real-life son, Massai Zhivago Dorsey II, who makes his film debut.
Perry will produce the film along with Ozzie Areu and Matt Moore. Production will start at the end of the month in Atlanta, where Perry’s production company is based.
Long is set to have a recurring role opposite Don Cheadle and Larentz Tate on season 2 of Showtime’s House of Lies, where plays a fellow consultant and former classmate of Marty’s (played by Cheadle). Her film credits include Boyz n the Hood, Boiler Room, Soul Food, Love Jones, The Best Man, Big Momma’s House, and Are We There Yet? and it’s sequel, Are We There Yet? She last appeared in Qasim Basir‘s film, Mooz-lum.
The Brooklyn, New York native is also slated to reprise her role as Jordan Armstrong in the sequel to Malcolm Lee‘s Best Man, which will hit theaters in November 2013.
Long is repped by Global and Stone Meyer.
Lionsgate will release Tyler Perry’s Single Mom’s Club on May 9, 2014.
