The Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission embarked on a journey on December 5th to get input and public comment from residents, business owners and community activists at Public Hearings at all 15 City Council Districts. Nearly 2000 people attended. The testimonies were heartfelt, informative and, overdue. On Monday, Jan. 30th the 21-member commissioner will unveil their pre-final map draft of the council districts. The Commission has a very difficult task to balance public input with population shifts. For example, the Korean and LGBT communities have expressed an interest in their own Council District. San Fernando Valley communities don’t want to be split between two to three districts. Moreover, Councilmembers Bernard Parks, Jan Perry and Herb Wesson have strong contingencies for a portion of their districts. Please see the enclosed press release for the upcoming public hearing dates in Feb. 1-11. These hearings are the last chance for the public to provide input on the final council district map.To schedule an interview with the Commissioners or if you plan on attending the press conference on Jan. 30th, contact Daniella Masterson email:
