Skip Cooper and Council President Herb Wesson

Council President Herb Wesson congratulated Earl “Skip” Cooper II, president and CEO of the Black Business Association for receiving the organization’s “Lifetime Achievement Award,” and presented him with a proclamation declaring February 28, 2013, “Skip Cooper Day” in the city of Los Angeles.

Hundreds of business and community leaders joined the BBA at its 39th Annual Awards Dinner at the Omni Hotel in paying tribute to Cooper.  Under his leadership the organization “continues to be the preeminent advocate for minority and disadvantaged business enterprise in Los Angeles and Southern California,” said BBA officials.

“Our community owes Skip a debt of gratitude for his exceptional leadership,” said Wesson.  “He has been a tremendous trail-blazer and role model for our community."

Also honored by the BBA for their leadership were Keith McNeely, president of AT&T California; Walter Rhodes, VP, Southern California Edison; Valerie Lynne Shaw, commissioner Los Angeles Board of Public Works; Richard Benbow, Sr., retired general manager, Community Development Department; and Robin Petgrave, founder and director Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum.
