The familiar song and dance of appearing in the Southern California Regional Division I championship game continued for veteran coach Carl Bugg and his Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits girl’s basketball team at Citizens Bank Arena Saturday.
Buggs and his wife Keisha who co-coaches the team advanced to the D-I State tile game for the fifth time in eight chances by steamrolling Canyon Springs 63-40, dominating the division that was void of powerhouses Etiwanda and Mater Dei which both played in the new Open division.
Asked following the game how it feels to be coaching with his wife, Carl responded; “I wouldn’t want to have it any other way."
The Lady Jackrabbits relied on a stifling and suffocating full court pressure defense and forced 17 Canyon Springs turnovers.
Sophomore Tania Lamb led a balance Poly scoring attack with 13 points.
