About 30,000 children and their parents passed through the White House South Lawn to mingle with the Easter Bunny, athletes and celebrities, and learn about healthy food choices during the 2013 Easter Egg Roll.
In one of the largest White House events of the year, Obama greeted attendees and introduced his family, including special guest “Kid President” Robbie Novak, whose viral video sensation featuring ideas to improve the government has wowed people around the world.
“Are you ready, Kid President?” she asked Novak before her entrance. “You have been so inspiring; you make us all want to work hard and be better,” Mrs. Obama said.
“So you’re going to spend a little time in the Oval Office just fixing things up for this President, aren’t you?”
Many other children enjoyed the sunshine and met the President, including Washington residents Neve Bonner, 3, and her father Carlos.
“Are you going to roll eggs? Are you going to win?” Bonner asked his daughter, who nodded confidently.
The first lady invited young attendees to enjoy the day-long event.
“We want you to run around; we want you to learn about making tasty, healthy food,” Mrs. Obama said regarding her “Let’s Move!” initiative to promote smarter eating choices and an active lifestyle for youth.
Special guests included NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallace, the Muppets, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall and U.S. Olympic gymnast John Orozco.
