Dr. Dorothy E. Kegler

Remaining focused despite life’s distractions is not easy, but encouragement to stay on course is found in ‘My Journey: Butterfly Wings.’

The new book, written by Dr. Dorothy Kegler, shares uplifting prayers, poems and prose offering comfort and reassurance during challenging times.

“I hope to inspire others to pursue their passion, and hopefully after reading my book, a person would feel a sense of, ‘if this person can get through it, then so can I.’

“So many people face difficult challenges and don’t always know how to get through. However, positive and inspiring words can help,” said Dr. Kegler who composed the writings while completing undergraduate and graduate programs at San Diego State University.

Describing that period in her life, she recalled, “It was a tough process for me, and I wrote mostly just from my heart, and what I had to go through to get my education.

“I did not write about what this person or that person did or said to me, I wrote about what could help me to get through school, and my focus was on God to help me through with prayer.”

As the youngest child in a family of 10, Dr. Kegler grew up in the South where she learned to value higher education. Determined to attain that goal, she went beyond graduate school to earn a doctorate in Higher Education Administration.

However, she endured a constant battle to balance her studies and employment. Dr. Kegler began journaling as an outlet to cope with her balancing act, but soon realized she actually enjoyed writing.

“I became interested in publishing a book and began to research publishing companies. I didn’t have any success until Insight Publishing from Tennessee contacted me about a book project they were working on.

“I submitted a proposal and was accepted to be featured in ‘Faith Lessons: Experiencing Miracles,’ an anthology with Robert Schuller, Jennifer O’Neill, and other authors.”

Also, Dr. Kegler’s work is featured in ‘Mastering the Art of Success’ along with Les Brown, Jack Canfield, and Mark Victor Hansen.

Dr. Kegler credits great mentors with assisting her as she pursued an education and as a result, she noted, “Having support along the way helped me to persist and accomplish my goals.

“Writing as a hobby is now becoming my profession. That’s the beauty of our journey. We don’t always know where we will end up. And that comes from living by faith.

“My favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13, 'I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.' Without His help, I would not be where I am today.”
