Reflecting recent events in the U.S., Fuller Theological Seminary's MLK Summit is entitled ‘Occupy the Promised Land - Perils and Possibilities Facing the Joshua Generation.'

Sponsored by the African American Church Studies Program, the event will take place on Tuesday, January 17, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on Wednesday, January 18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the campus at 135 North Oakland Avenue in Pasadena.

"The prophetic pronouncement of Isaiah 61:1, quoted by Jesus in Acts? 4:18-19, depicts the reason that faith leaders should attend this MLK ?prayer breakfast and workshop on engaging congregations in social ?justice ministry," said the Rev. Dr. Lewis Logan II, Interim Program Manager.

He explained that a major goal of the summit is to gain commitment from clergy and lay to partner in strategies that afford equitable access to wealth, representation and global resources for all people.

Among the scheduled speakers are Rev. Jean Burch of Community Bible Church in Pasadena, Maria Elena Durazo of the L.A. County Federation of Labor, and Dr. Lawrence Carter of Morehouse College. Also, Fuller students and faculty will serve as panelists.
