Religious, business and civic leaders will be honored at the 31st Annual Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Inglewood Area Ministers Association (IAMA)
The event is set for Wednesday, May 8, at 7 a.m., at the Proud Bird Restaurant, 11022 Aviation Boulevard in Los Angeles. The theme is ‘The Joy of Building Together’ based on Psalm 133:1.
“We are coming together as clergy, laypersons, communions of faith, city government and workers from all facets of Inglewood and the surrounding South Bay to pray for our City of Champions,” said the Rev. Joyce L. Randall, 2013 Prayer Breakfast Chair. Bishop L. Daniel Williams is 2013 Prayer Breakfast Vice-Chair
“The greater Los Angeles community is invited to join us for this inspirational time of prayer and praise,” added the Rev. Dr. Austin Williams, IAMA President.
The keynote speaker will be the Rev. J. Edgar Boyd, pastor of First A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles. Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, presiding prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church, will introduce the speaker.
Appointed to FAME in October 2012, Pastor Boyd previously led Bethel A.M.E. – San Francisco where he directed the Allen Community Development Corporation and Bethel’s Housing Ministry. In addition, he and local ministers established YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard), an ecumenical, multi-cultural lobbying effort to push for affordable housing in the Bay area.
As pastor of Bethel A.M.E. – Los Angeles from 1986 to 1992, he galvanized the Black church and community to address racial inequities in South LA. Also, he worked closely with Korean ministers to eradicate long-held animosities between the two cultures.
The prayer and praise services will also memorialize the late Bishop Gregory Dixon by honoring his son, Pastor Geremy Dixon of First Church of God with the Bishop Gregory Dixon Humanitarian Award. Other highlights include honoring Consultant Carolyn Fowler with the Doris Dillon Community Service Award; the City of Champions Award to former Inglewood Chief of Police Jacqueline Seabrooks, and the President Barack Obama Award bestowed upon retired County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke.
Prayer Warriors for this year include, Rev. Dr. Najuma Pollard, Pastor Michael Jenkins, Pastor Joseph Gardner, Pastor Gregory McLeod, Bishop James B. Walker, and Pastor Kathye Wilborn.
