A bone marrow donor program is searching for a match for a young patient.
The “Be The Match” Bone Marrow Donor Program (BTM) is asking for the community’s help on behalf of a very special child.
Four-year-old, Camilla Gonzalez lives in La Puente, a suburb of Los Angeles and is in desperate need of a bone marrow donor.
[We’re] working with a 4 year-old patient who has… a form of leukemia,” said. Jessica Acosta of BTM. “An acute form of leukemia.”
The bone marrow registry currently has 9 million people on file. Unfortunately, none of them were a match for Gonzalez, which makes this a special situation.
“We’re hoping several drives… will help increase her chances of finding a match,” said Acosta.
BTM will be participating in an MLK celebration Saturday, January 14 at the Power of Love Church from 8am-3pm.
“Anybody can help,” said Acosta. “It’s just a swab of the cheek, takes about 5 minutes to fill out the consent form. You can literally save someone’s life and be a hero for a little girl or any other patient.”
