Daniel Lee Jones passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013 in Inglewood, California. He passed peacefully in his sleep of natural causes.
Daniel Lee Jones was born to Leonard Clevland Jones and Ida Mae Bailey in Dekalb, Texas on January 17, 1942. Both of his parents preceded him in death. Daniel was the third of seven children and, throughout his life, maintained close relationships with his siblings Etta Mae Antwine, Johnnye M. Heliton, Joyce Ann Gould, Robert Jones, Lonnie Earl Jones and Carl D. Jones.
Daniel attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and High School. He was active in the high school band and played the trombone. He also was a part of the Booker T. Washington High School Harry T. Burleigh Acapella Choir, the Student Council and the Hi-Y Club.
After graduating from High School, Daniel moved to Los Angeles, California and furthered his education at Los Angeles City College and U.C.L.A.
Daniel’s early jobs in Los Angeles included working as a wine steward and waiter at Pull Horse Inn Restaurant and working at Miner Manufacturing. In March 1964, Daniel began what would become a 41-year career with Los Angeles County. He advanced from a Clerk to a Senior Contract Administrator with the Department of Health Services.
Daniel married Patricia “Pat” Phelps Roberts on April 21, 1973. The marriage created a union of Dan, Pat, Dale and Robin. Dan and Pat were deeply devoted to each other and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Daniel dedicated his life to Jehovah on October 23, 1977, making him a loyal servant of His for over 36 years. As an Elder in the North Inglewood, Marina, and Venice Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he shepherded the congregation and helped others to learn about the wonderful promises of Jehovah. Before falling ill, he and Pat yearly auxiliary pioneered. He was also a common smiling face at the literature table at the Fox Hills Mall.
Daniel was very active in many sports and received numerous awards and trophies. He was a great golfer and member of the Western States Golf Association with the clubs Tee Masters and Cosmos. With his job at Los Angeles County, he played basketball. He also participated in league bowling at Midtown Bowling Center.
Daniel will be remembered as a very generous, hospitable and loving man who often opened his home to family, friends, and the congregation bookstudy. He reached out and touched many people in his lifetime. He was personable, charming, and was loved dearly by many wonderful people.
Daniel leaves to cherish fond memories, his immediate family Pat, Robin, Dale and daughter-in-law Denise; Sisters Etta Mae (Michael) Antwine; Johnnye M. (James) Heliton and Joyce Ann (Tommy) Gould; Brothers Robert (Patsy) Jones, Lonnie Earl (Marva) Jones, and Carl D. (Rosalind) Jones; Grandchildren Kira (Damon) Jones, Mia Roberts, Morgan Boyd, and Jessica Roberts; Great-grandson Ethan Jones; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
