TAMAR BRAXTON

BET|13 Awards nominee Tamar Braxton is already getting rave reviews for her new up and coming video ‘The One.’ Reports say the video will put you in a summertime mood with her feel-good appeal featuring her latest single from her upcoming LP, ‘Love and War.’

The clip, directed by Gil Green, features the mom-to-be having some fun at an amusement park with her handsome co-star.

Overall, it’s a fun video. And with Notorious B.I.G.‘s ‘Juicy’ sampled in the track, the song will definitely put you in the mood for the up coming warmer months.

WIZ KHALIFA

Wiz Khalifa is adding another item to his fashion business portfolio. The ONIFC rapper is teaming up with Flat Fitty Luxury Headwear to develop seasonal custom caps.

“Wiz’s desire to position his line with the most esteemed retailers is aligned with our brand’s mission statement of ‘Just Better.’ Wiz is one of the most business-minded young tastemakers out there, and Flat Fitty is truly excited about this partnership,” said Flat Fitty CEO Christian “Tian” Waters in a statement.

Flat Fitty was founded over eight years ago and has since become known for its high quality products. Every Flat Fatty cap is hand-sewn and contains 3D embroidery. The company’s previous celebrity partnerships include DJ Whoo Kid, Pro Skateboarder Manny Santiago, and America’s Best Dance Crew winners Jabbawockeez.

Their new alliance with Wiz will be a cross promotional relationship as the Taylor Gang leader prepares to release his third album later this year on Atlantic Records/Warner Music Group.

Wiz’s new Flat Fitty headwear line will be available later this year. A sneak peek will debut during MAGIC Market Week in Las Vegas in August.

MARIAH CAREY

Taking it to social media, Mariah Carey is one and done and American Idol. Her PR firm let the world know that the diva has exited ‘American Idol‘ after one lucrative season as a judge. Her reps did so via a tweet issued with little fanfare. It’s like she exited through the back door, stopping to confirm what everyone already knew with a Miss America-like wave goodbye.

The fact that ‘Idol’ producers were less-than-pleased with the Season 12 panelists quickly became the worst kept secret in show biz. While we’ll likely never know if she really did quit or if she was not asked to return, Carey officially announced her departure with class.

The tweet is much more effective than sending a press release, allowing Carey to bow out gracefully.

It was not a shock that Carey, who was handsomely paid for her role as a judge, would follow her former manager and original judge Randy Jackson, who announced his exit earlier in early May.

The verbal battle royales with Nicki Minaj prior to the season were laughable when they were likely meant to be dramatic to entice viewers. That, combined with the show’s dipping ratings during Season 12, as well as the overall lack of chemistry on the judge’s panel, pretty much assured that Carey bought a one-way ticket and was just passing through the ‘Idol’ set on the way to her next adventure, which is a tour, according to the PMK tweet.

NAUGHTY BY NATURE

Naughty By Nature revealed that it still has what it takes last weekend in Philly at the 2013 Roots Picnic.

Treach and his gang wowed the crowd performing in tandem with the Roots band after infighting between the two groups had been brush aside.

With their timeless hits The duo, along with Kay Gee on the turntables, took concert-goers down memory lane and rapped their infectious hits including ‘It’s On,’ ‘Uptown Anthem,’ ‘O.P.P.’ and, of course, ‘Hip-Hop Hooray’ it was like old times all over again.

Joining NBN and the Roots onstage were Marsha Ambrosius, Rahzel the Godfather of Noize and an unbilled Meek Mill. Additionally, Jean Norris-Baylor of the ’90s R&B duo Zhane sang alongside NBN during their rendition of ‘Everything’s (Gonna Be Alright).’

The Roots Picnic had plenty of superstars heat up the stage during a brutally hot afternoon.

Seattle hip-hopper Macklemore turned up the heat with a performance of his chart-topping hit singles, ‘Thrift Shop,’ ‘Same Love’ and ‘Can’t Hold Us.’

But the festival wasn’t all hip-hop as the eclectic bill embraced a wide range of music artists from the R&B, EDM, jazz and rock worlds.

Beyoncé’s sister, Solange was in the building. She had the crowd singing along during her soulful set. Jazz musician Robert Glasper and rock guitarist Gary Clark, Jr., also entertained the Philly crowd with their high-powered sets.

Overall, it was great to see the Roots come back to their hometown and give fans a superstar-filled show.

Roots will host its annual Philly 4th of July Jam featuring headlining acts Jill Scott, John Mayer, Ne-Yo and J. Cole, among others.

There’s no doubt that the Roots are the hardest working and most-beloved band in hip-hop.
