The 28th Session of the Southern California Region of the Ninth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will convene on Wednesday, July 31 through Saturday, August 3, at Hays Tabernacle C.M.E. Church, 10121 South Central Avenue in Los Angeles.
Bishop James B. Walker, presiding prelate, will oversee all activities of the conference. The host is the Rev. Julio Andujo, pastor of Hays Tabernacle C.M.E. and presiding elder of the Los Angeles District. The Rev. John D. Johnson, pastor of Calvary C.M.E. and presiding elder of the Los Angeles/San Diego District, is the co-host.
Worship services, business sessions, youth activities and training workshops will be held throughout the four-day event. The Lay/Ministry to Men Banquet will be held on Friday at 7 p.m., at the California African American Museum, 600 State Drive, Exposition Park in Los Angeles. The honorees are Brothers Travis Hicks and Bruce Levingston, and Dr. Joseph C. Neal, Jr.
Guest speakers during the conference include the Rev. Dr. Bobby R. Best of Metropolitan C.M.E. in Houston, TX; Attorney I. Charles Matthews of Phillips Metropolitan C.M.E. in Hartford, CT; the Rev. Dr. Vanessee Burns of Carter Tabernacle C.M.E. in Orlando, FL; and the Rev. Dr. Denise Anders-Modest of Anderson Chapel C.M.E. in Holly Springs, MS.
Among the local participants are Pastor Wendell M. Oldham, Jr., of Lewis Metropolitan, Pastor James Markham of Emmanuel Temple, and Dr. Clifford L. Harris of Hays Tabernacle.
