Dr. Clifford L. Harris

An Awards Banquet Celebration will salute three outstanding members of the Southern California Region (SCR) of the Ninth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

The gala event is set for Friday, August 2, at 7 p.m., at the California African American Museum, 600 State Drive in Exposition Park in Los Angeles.  The program highlights the SCR’s 28th Annual Conference that opened this week under the leadership of Bishop James B. Walker, presiding prelate. 

Dr. Clifford L. Harris, general secretary of the C.M.E. Lay Ministry, will be the banquet’s guest speaker.  An Oklahoma Region lay leader for more than 16 years, Dr. Harris serves on the C.M.E. Connectional General Board and is a past president of the Connectional Lay Council.

Also, Brother Travis G.  Hicks, Brother Donald B. Levingston, and Dr. Joseph C. Neal, Jr., will be honored during the celebration.

Brother Levingston, president of the SCR Lay Ministry, is a C.M.E. Church General Board member and has held positions at all levels of the denomination.  He united with Hays Tabernacle C.M.E. in 1954.

Dr. Neal, a member of Phillips Temple C.M.E. for 51 years, is the general secretary of finance/CFO of the C.M.E. Church.  The author of ‘Getting Serious About Stewardship,’ he has conducted workshops across the nation as well as served on all levels of the C.M.E. Church.

Brother Hicks is the president and coordinator of the SCR Ministry to Men and the SCR treasurer. A member of Bethel C.M.E. – Long Beach, he also serves on the Board of Finance of the SCR’s Los Angeles/San Diego District.
