New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate Founder’s Day 2013 on Sunday, August 18, at 3:30 p.m.
The service is dedicated to the life and ministry of the founding pastor, the Rev. Dr. Lonnie Dawson and recognizes the continuing work of First Lady Emeritus Mamie P. Dawson.
The theme is, ‘If These Stones Could Talk’ based on Joshua 4:20-24. Several guest churches will participate and the guest preacher is the Rev. Dr. Michael J.T. Fisher, pastor of Greater Zion Church Family.
“Truly, we give God all honor, glory, and praise for the 48 years that Pastor Dawson labored in the vineyard to reach souls for Jesus Christ. As a visionary, educator, leader, and international missionary, he envisioned change, implemented action, and transformed lives,” said Pastor Sonja R. Dawson.
“During his tenure, Dr. Dawson developed one of the largest Sunday School departments in Los Angeles, authored several books on Sunday School growth, and founded the Church Leadership Training Institute (C.L.T.I) of the LAX Urban Center.”
The legacy of Dr. Dawson continues through the efforts of his wife, Lady Emeritus Dawson; his children, Pastor Dawson and Sister Sherri Dawson-Williams; his grandchildren, the Rev. Lonnell Williams (Jessica and Laila) and Sister Lonnae Williams; and the New Mount Calvary congregation.
