Dynamic duo takes plus size to sexy

Women come in many shapes and sizes, which many companies keep in mind and try to accommodate. Some companies are successful in marketing to plus size women while others are still trying to get it. Urban Intimates (UI) gets it and is taking plus size lingerie to the next level.

Psyche and Vontoba Terry, owners of UI, are in the business of making plus size women feel sexy again. On Sunday, August 18, UI held a lingerie fashion show at Macy’s, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza (BHCP), showcasing their lingerie line complete with cameras, lights, music and celebs. Psyche wanted women AKA ‘her girls’ to know that she understands and is giving them the key to their inner sexy.

“I didn’t see anything in the marketplace for girls that were top-heavy,” said Psyche. “[While pregnant] my bra size went from a B cup to a DD cup and I like to be sexy, I like to see things that look like me in order for me to buy it.”

Established in 2009, UI is as Vontoba says, “coast-to-coast” featured in Macy’s with locations in Baltimore, Atlanta, Virginia Beach, Richmond and Houston. UI came to Macy’s in Los Angeles in June of this year in Culver City and Macy’s BHCP.

The Terrys’, Vontoba from Ohio and Psyche from Michigan originally, met at a business conference when they were both in college. Approaching a decade in their marriage, the couple would come to call Dallas, Texas home and establish UI.

“I wanted to still look good for my husband after having two kids,” said Psyche. “I wanted a little bit of push up, a little bit of garter belt—I wanted some stuff.”

Together, with an MBA and masters in Economics between both of them, they have garnered a business that is all about plus sized-sexy. UI lingerie is made to fit and accommodate the full-figured woman utilizing spandex, nylon and lace to create scintillating lingerie.

Models wears lingerie from Urban Intimates at Macy’s fashion show, which specializes in plus size fashions.

“I really wanted to get intimate with women and help them understand that they’re beautiful with the skin that God gave them,” said Psyche. “Von [ her husband], he supports me in that he loves me and because he’s shown me, the way a man can love a woman and really love her for who she is…I really want women to feel and understand that.”

Vontoba, more than a business partner, is a devoted and loving husband who has inspired Psyche to inspire other women. Aside from being vice-president, he holds multiple positions including controller, accounts payable, customer service, social media and…”foot-rubber,” said Psyche.

“I do whatever needs to be done,” said Vontoba. “I’m the clean-up guy.” He pretty much does the heavy lifting leaving the creative side of the business to Psyche.

“I design the bras, panties, the ware, he works with me, we work together,” said Psyche. “We used everything that we do from a man and woman’s point-of-view.”

“We work very well together as a team,” said Vontoba.

“We’re business people that love fashion and that love women,” said Psyche. “
