Evangelist Margie Houston ministers during the service.

Love for Christ combined with helping women drives the ministry of Evangelist Margie Houston.

As the founder of Wholistic Women in Christ, she said, “My passion is for women to know that we are complete in Jesus. My ministry was born from my relationship in Christ.”

Experiences in her personal life before she accepted Christ inspired Evangelist Houston to reach out to aid women.

“Prior to Christ, I kept doing the same things and getting the same results. But after receiving Christ, I became a new person in body, soul and spirit. Christ became my adviser and I learned to acknowledge Him in all of my ways.”

With God as her guide, Evangelist Houston convened the first Wholistic Women in Christ Seminar in 1993 and witnessed His awesome power at the event.

“God saved a young woman from a life of drugs and today, she is a powerful evangelist drawing other women to Christ,” she recalled.

While her ministry has overcome challenges such as finances and illness, she has stayed the course the past 20 years, declaring, “The reward is that both women who are in Christ, as well as those who don’t know Christ, are getting the message of Colossians 2:10 that they can be complete in Christ.”

Evangelist Houston’s background has equipped her to help others.  As a wife and mother, she and her husband, Dr. Arthur H. Houston, raised ten children. As a first lady, she co-labors with him in his role as pastor of King Jesus Bible Way Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles.

“I have had the opportunity to work as president of the Department of Women, Sunday School Superintendent, and co-teacher of our weekly Bible study with my husband.

“This gives me the chance to work closely with the women in the church, do outreach in the community, and conduct revivals and prayer meetings.  Also, women in the church and I are planning the next Wholistic Women in Christ seminar for 2014.”

Evangelist Houston gained additional experience as a Parent Educator for Los Angeles Unified School District conducting workshops for parents all over the L.A. area. When she suffered a stroke in 2001, she retired from LAUSD after serving more than 15 years.  Upon recovery, she resumed building her ministry, determined to win souls for Christ.  Crediting her mentors, the senior mothers of the church, for guiding her as a wife, mother and woman of God, Evangelist Houston is equally focused on sharing their example with others.

“Their life of holiness and wisdom truly encouraged me. My mission today is to help instill those same Godly characteristics in women, wholistically,” she said.

“I would like the life I lead in Christ to be an example for women.  A life in Christ will inspire most women of God to have a ministry that encourages wholeness in all, young and old.”
