Today I was watching T.V. and noticed the previews of a new movie starring Justin Timberlake called "In Time," in which every one is given 25 years of time to live, and the things you purchase has to be purchased with time subtracted from your 25 years, not with currency. Lets examine for a moment the many concepts of time. Time is an artificial concept that we ourselves have created to make limitlessness, eternity and the universe more bearable, more human. So often we forget that time is a mental construction, that it is completely relative, and that our experience of time is almost exclusively the result of our mental focus. Past time and future time is now in our imagination. The ability to flex your experience of time is the ability to shape your experience of life. The clock had its genesis in the Benedictine Monasteries of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The idea behind the invention was to provide a more or less precise regularity to the routines of the monasteries. Which required among other things, seven sessions of devotion during the course of the day. The bells of the monastery were to be rung to signal the canonical hours; the mechanical clock was the technology that could provide precision to these rituals devotion...what the monks did not foresee was that the clock is a means not merely of keeping track of the hours, but also of synchronizing and controlling the actions of men.
Life is like a voyage through time were we have been given so many years in which together the treasures of love courage, wisdom and success. How we define our use of time is very important. Are you spending it, wasting it? , or killing it? It's been said that "killing time is not murder; it's suicide". The way you spend your hours is the way you spend your day. The way you spend your days is the way you spend your life. Understanding the roots of time requires that we undo our habitual assumptions about seconds, minutes, hours, days and years. Once we understand it's a raw material, we can use it the way a sculptor uses clay and share our lives and destiny. Most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a years time and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade.
Are you using your time to cultivate a disposition that will allow you to view time from a priceless perspective? Time is the most precious commodity known to man. However, what time brings us, time takes away its all part of the deal. Since we come from nothingness and will return to nothingness, lets spend the time we have celebrating the very somethingness of life, our time is precious literally irreplaceable. The only way to truly master your time is to organize your schedule each day to spend the majority of it doing the things that are important. The more sand that has escaped from the hourglass of our life the clearer we should see it. Tick tock
