Back in 2011, positive changes began in Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area when community members, representatives from the Baldwin Hills Conservancy and County Department of Parks and Recreation had gathered for  a ribbon cutting ceremony at Kenneth Hahn State Recreational Area  to  debut the new “Baldwin Hills Parklands” logo system . Mark Ridley-Thomas dedicated new trail at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Ridley-Thomas, Department of Parks and Recreation Director Russ Guiney and Baldwin Hills Conservancy board members dedicated new Eastern Ridgeline trail at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area on Sept. 20.

The dedication took place in the upper area of the park, which is located at 4100 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90056. Funded by a Proposition 40 grant provided by the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, along with a grant from Chairman Ridley-Thomas’ office, the ¾-mile walking trail is the first completed segment of the planned “Park to Playa” Regional Trail. When fully completed, the Park to Playa trail will be the first non-vehicular route from Baldwin Hills to the Pacific Ocean.

“This $3 million investment will make Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area more accessible to all the communities that live on its east side – including the residents of View Park and Windsor Hills,” said Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Ridley-Thomas, whose office has contributed to funding the project. “No matter what time of day it is, the views along the ridgeline are incredible and will give users a great taste of what the entire ‘Park to Playa’ experience will be like once the regional trail is completed.”

Along the scenic Eastern Ridgeline trail, visitors will find amenities that include a play area tailored for families; four fitness zones with exercise equipment; child-friendly animal sculptures; benches for relaxation; and native, drought-tolerant landscaping. The project also includes accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and a new crosswalk at the “five points” intersection of La Brea Avenue, Stocker Street and Overhill Drive.

This exciting addition to the existing trail network at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area was made possible by a partnership between Chairman Ridley-Thomas’ office, the Los Angeles County Chief Executive office, the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Public Works.
