Luke 2: Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
Following the announcement that a savior has been born, a heavenly host (choir) appears to the shepherds in the field and began singing praise unto God.
Nearly 400 plus years of silence proceeded the birth of Jesus. Generations were born, lived and died, while the earth waited on the King to come. Prophe-liars had come and gone claiming to be the messiah, but unable to fulfill prophecy.
Some had remained faithful during this period, while others fell off from their faith. But as promised and prophesied, the King has come, the Savior is born...and the atmosphere exhaled with praise!
Have you ever waited a long period of time for something to come to pass; and finally good news comes that you got the job, you are having a baby, you've been approved for the loan, your child is coming home, your test was negative or (this is my personal favorite) the check is in the mail!
I don't know about you, but when I get this kind of Good News, I can't help but exhale with praise with words like, ‘Thank you Jesus, Hallelujah or Praise the Lord!'To exhale means to give off, breathe out and to BLOW FORTH!
When it was announced in the atmosphere that a Savior was born unto us, the heavenly host blow forth a mighty praise! It was the beginning of a new day for gentiles and Israelites. It was hope in the presence of a new born baby. He was the sign of victory over the adversary; and it was worth an exhale of praise!
Many have been waiting all year for that special gift from the special person. We've sent hints and clues to family and friends as to the kind of gift we would like under the Christmas tree. Shoppers have been waiting all year for those holiday specials and store discounts; and even many parents have been waiting for months to see their baby perform in the Christmas program.
But on a personal note, I've been waiting to hear the choirs, singers, etc., exhale (blow forth) praise! My favorite part about Christmas is the songs of praise that distinguish this time of year - Joy to the World! Immanuel! Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him!
Beyond the gifts, decorations, and Christmas pageantry programs, the Christmas story is far more deeper than that. It is the opportunity to reflect on the hope and affirmation that God kept His greatest promise to human kind and gave us a great gift.
And like the heavenly host, it is a time to really exhale (blow forth) praise to our King!
