Errol Gillett at Taste of Soul

Praises to the Lord filled the air as God worshippers converged upon the Taste of Soul Gospel Experience stage on October 19.

Dynamic vocalists, colorful praise dancers, powerful rappers and dramatic mime artists were showcased for nine hours in the Angeles Funeral Home parking lot.

“Taste of Soul is an opportunity to bond with one another as a community,” said Pastor Michael J.T. Fisher of Greater Zion Church Family in the city of Compton.

“The African American community goes through so many challenges where we are separated, it’s so good to see everybody on one accord in unity and where there’s unity, Michael Fisher will be in the building or on the street!”

Performing as J. Kingdom, Pastor Fisher delivered energetic renditions of his hits, ‘You’re Good’ and ‘Wanna Be Close.’

Pastor Theo Wilkins, returning for the seventh consecutive year, brought the audience to its feet when he and his group, Sounds of Praise, belted out a medley featuring Israel Houghton’s ‘Lord You Are Good’ and Tye Tribbett’s ‘I Will Bless the Lord at All Times.’

“The main reason I keep participating in the Taste of Soul is that there are so many people at this event to minister to.  How dare I miss an opportunity to minister outside the four walls of the church?

“I’ve been in the music ministry for 30 years, preaching for 24 years, a pastor for 10 years and I’m not tired yet,” insisted Pastor Wilkins, who leads Three Oaks Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Pastor Melvin King of Divine Deliverance Ministries introduced his youth choir who gave spirited versions of ‘All In His Hands’ and ‘Let Everything That Has Breath.’

“I’m pleased to be a part of Taste of Soul.  We like to be in the community. We have a deliverance ministry, so we’re out here to witness and tell everybody about Jesus Christ and invite people to come to Christ,” he declared.

Scores of artists were recruited to bless the crowd with their talents, thanks to the production team of Dr. Adrianne Moore and Dr. Helen Sellers with assistance from Phelicia Wright, Patricia Wooten, Adrian Moore-Gonzalez and Cora Jackson-Fossett.

The lineup included Black Onyx, Minister Errol Gillett, Pastor Joseph Hamilton and the Voices of Praise, The Sweetie Chicks, Brother Willie Daniels and Praise City, Made Whole Praise Dancers, Gospel comedian Six Foota, Girard Savory, Tommy the Clown, Angelle J. Clarke, J & J Soul Steppers, Renee Jackson, Melissa Hayward, A-Tone and Team Jesus, Paula Franklin, Prophetess Deborah Johnson, Deborra Hall, and the KJLH Choir.
