‘How Sweet the Sound’ Artists

Leading gospel artists headlined Verizon’s ‘How Sweet the Sound’ choir competition finale held November 2, at the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live.

Co-hosts Donald Lawrence and Yolanda Adams were joined by Tamela Mann, Bishop Hezekiah Walker, VaShawn Mitchell and Erica Campbell who served as judges. The recording stars also performed their award-winning hits to the delight of the capacity crowd.

Bishop Walker opened with “Every Praise,” Mann soared singing “Take Me to the King,” Mitchell lifted spirits with “Greatest Man,” Campbell rocked the house in “A Little More Jesus,” and Lawrence and Adams rendered an amazing duet with “Best4Last.”

In addition, Pastor Shirley Caesar, who received the Living Legend Award, received loud applause singing “God Will Make A Way.”

Seven choirs representing various regions of the U.S. competed in the finale. St. Mark Sanctuary Choir of Dallas, TX, emerged victorious with their moving rendition of “Now.”  As the grand prize winner, St. Mark will receive $25,000 and a recording contract.

Darryl Izzard and Christ N-U Choir of Atlanta, GA, who sang “Total Praise,” won both 2nd place and the People’s Choice Award.  Their total prize was $20,000.

This was the Verizon’s sixth presentation of ‘How Sweet the Sound.’  The event pays tribute to gospel music and provides choirs with a platform to showcase their talents to a broader community.
