Rev. Dr. James Arthur Rumph

The Rev. Dr. James Arthur Rumph is the new pastor of Grant A.M.E. Church, located at 10435 South Central Avenue in the Watts community of Los Angeles.

Appointed in October by Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Sr., presiding prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church, he most recently served as senior pastor of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in St. Louis, MO.  

Dr. Rumph, who has more than 31 years in parish ministry, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama, his Master of Divinity degree from Turner Theological Seminary and Doctor of Ministry degree from Beeson School of Divinity.

His career also includes teaching at the college level, conducting seminars, and facilitating workshops for religious and community-based groups as a lecturer and consultant.

A native of Alabama, Dr. Rumph is married to Mrs. Sandra Bryant Rumph and they are the parents of two children, JaSan Akilah and James Arthur II. 


Grant AME Holds 2013 Christmas Extravaganza

Grant A.M.E. Church will present its 2013 Christmas Extravaganza on Sunday, December 8, at 5 p.m., at the Grand Event Center, 4101 East Willow Street in Long Beach.  The elegant event features dinner and music by The Del Atkins Band. 

“Please come and celebrate with the congregation and support the worthy work done in the Watts community,” said a spokesperson.  

“Proceeds from the Christmas Extravaganza will go to support the outreach ministries of Grant A.M.E. Church, which has stood as a beacon of hope in the Watts community for more than 107 years.

“Our many ministries include supporting youth and families in the community surrounding the church located at 105th and Central Avenue. They include a weekly food ministry, community giveaways, tutorial and mentoring programs, math and science university partnerships, and a day camp ministry.”
