JUST YOU KID AND ME: There was a time when it was just Murad Muhammad and Manny Pacquaio before Freddie Roached convinced the fighter to leave. Now that Pacquaio is broke, Murad is not the one to blame this time.
It wasn’t too long ago when Manny Pacquaio was an obscure boxer on the promotional resume of Murad Muhammad.
Murad is Don King lite if you will. He’s work for Ali in the past had Donovan Razor Ruddock who endured two of the most grueling fights with Mike Tyson than anyone.
Murad brought former undisputed pound for pound king Roy Jones Jr. to the Sentinel to host a boxing presser.
He had great plans for Jones Jr. after the fight in Biloxi Mississippi where Jones Jr. met and defeated a lightly regarding Anthony Hanshaw.
However, Jones bolted for a man that he adamantly said that he would never work with. Don King!
The bait was Felix Trinidad and Jones Jr. bit it hook line and sinker to hand Trinidad his final defeat of an International Boxing Hall of Fame career.
Jones Jr. left King when one of King’s underlings working inside of office convinced Jones Jr. to began his own promotional company.
To say that boxing is not a shady business is like calling Rush Limbaugh sensible.
After Jones Jr. flew the King coo, he resumed another prolonged losing streak, but King would set his sights on Floyd Mayweather.
Without a shot on the horizon he rolled the dice anyway, but in the meantime Bob Arum and Golden Boy operatives were masterminding a plan to steal Pacquaio away from Murad.
Understand, that Top Rank and Golden Boy wasn’t working together, but the pawn in the middle of it was the trainer Freddie Roach.
Roach has more influence on his fighters and takes a larger cut than any other trainer.
It was Roach who convinced Pacquaio to leave Murad because the African American promoter was allegedly stealing the fighter’s money.
Today we know Pacquaio is not any more successful at dealing with his finances.
Pac Man owes the IRS in the US $18 million, the government in the Philippines $55 million, after raking in an estimated $34 million in June.
He is barrowing money from Arum to stay afloat.
In the quietness of his own room, Pacquaio probably wants to pick up the phone and call Mayweather and De La Hoya, two mega superstars who left Bob Arum.
Boy, he really needs Money Mayweather now, and chance is he can get him. If Pacquaio could just leave Roach and Arum, maybe then he can get the fight we’ve all been waiting for.
Can you say…HELP!
