On Wednesday, December 11, Buffalo Wild Wings (BWW) on Crenshaw along with the Los Angeles Police Department Operations- South Bureau Southwest Area (LAPDSBSA) and local organizations, Shields For Families (SFF) and the Tom Bradley Family Source Center (TBFSC) held a toy and can good drive for the community.
The event kicked off at 7:00pm as patrons and special guests arrived with toys and canned goods for the event. BWW franchisee owners, Karim Webb and Edward Barnett spoke about the event and their partnerships with SFF and TBFSC.
“What we’re trying to do is what we call partying for a good cause,” said Barnett. “What we’re trying to do is be a good steward in the community.
“The community has really supported us… coming in and patronizing us, so we’re looking at this as a way to give back.
“This time of year, the holiday season… you have people that are a little bit less fortunate so what we’re trying to do is bridge that gap and provide a little bit of happiness for the kids and the families that don’t necessarily have the finances in order to have some gifts.
“The whole thing tonight is bring everybody in, party, have a good time, bring either a canned good or a gift in.”
“[SFF, TBFSC & LAPDSBSA] will be taking the toys at the end of the night and distributing them through their centers,” said Webb.
SFF and TBFSC partnered with Barnett and Webb with their goals set on helping the community this holiday season. Both organizations were happy to be a part of the event and grateful towards BWW for being the Launchpad of the event.
“Buffalo Wild Wings and [Webb] have reached out to us and to the community,” said Anthony Nicholas, director of TBFSC. “It’s truly amazing that we’re having this event here tonight and I can’t thank…Buffalo Wild Wings enough for what they’re doing here for the children in the community.
“There is nothing like seeing a child smile and [Webb] is going to have a lot of children smiling.”
“We partnered with Ed Barnett to do this toy drive,” said Audrey Tousant, Child Welfare Administrator at SFF. “We serve about 7,000 to 8,000 families a year, so we’re trying to make sure that we can provide toys for each of our families.
“We really excited about the partnership with BWW specifically because they’re in the community,” said Stephanie Moss, Development Coordinator at SFF. “I think when people in the community, businesses in the community are invested in giving back to the children and families locally; I think it really means a lot.
“It’s a special partnership with them tonight—we’re happy to be here and just very thankful and grateful for their generosity.”
