Kitt Shapiro says about her mother, Eartha Kitt and Simply Eartha: “The story is my connection to my mother and… how I was brought up.”
“I was blessed to be her only child,” said Shapiro. “I worked for her, for Earhta Kitt Productions, where I produced her tours… managed and ran her company and was lucky enough to be able to then spend a lot of time with her throughout our adult lives.”

Kitt Shapiro brings the wisdom, grace and the beauty of Eartha Kitt to a home near you.
There is nothing stronger than the bond between mother and daughter. These are definitely the ties that bound the late, multi-talented entertainer, Eartha Kitt with her daughter Kitt Shapiro.
“I was blessed to be her only child,” said Shapiro. “I worked for her, for Earhta Kitt Productions, where I produced her tours… managed and ran her company and was lucky enough to be able to then spend a lot of time with her throughout our adult lives.
“We also lived very close, nearby each other in Conneticut, about 3 miles from each other. We were very alike—very intwined.
“She often said I was the perfect personality to be the only child of Eartha Kitt.”
Kitt was known for her grace, beauty, wit and a “purr” that could drive a man up the wall but it was the little things she left behind that are making the most impact.
“During our lives together, she would say, ‘don’t throw anything away,’” said Shapiro about her mother. “Her home is where she felt the most comfortable—her hands in the dirt… and being connect to the land.
“When she passed, when I was closing up her house and putting it on the market to sell it, I found thousands of pieces of paper. It was not really a surprise to me, she always thought that way… she’d wake up, pen and paper next to her—she was always writing things down.
“They were these little pearls of wisdom, nothing necessarily unique, some sayings like, ‘Don’t Panic’ or ‘God may not be there when you want Him but he’s always on time’…I would come across these thousands of pieces of paper… and I’m thinking, ‘what am I going to do with this stuff,’ [and] all I could hear her saying is, ‘don’t throw anything away.’”
Shaprio decided to put her mother’s words to good use by combining them with home goods and products under the banner of Simply Eartha. These sayings from Kitt or “Kitt-isms” as Shapiro has branded them, have been put on coasters, plates, jars and more.
“It evolved to be this brand and I named it Simply Eartha because that’s what she was—she was simply of the Earth,” said Shapiro. “It made sense to do home accessories because home was so important to her and now the tagline that I’m using is ‘accessories that say something.’”
So at Simply Eartha you can find scented candles maybe whispering to you, ‘My Flaws Make Me Who I Am’ or sit your coffee on coaster that may tell you quite boldly to ‘Never Miss An Opportunity To Shut Up.’ Shaprio made sure that all of the Simply Eartha products were made in the good old U.S.A and supplied by local merchants.
“Everything is made in the United States because my mother was very much about ‘made in the U.S.A,’” said Shapiro. “She really felt that a lot of the downfall of this country was sending jobs overseas.”
“So everything is made in the United States with either natural or recycled materials by local artisans.”
A legend in her own right, Kitt gave birth to another legend that is continuing her legacy of bringing knowledge and wisdom with grace and style in her daughter, Shapiro.
“The story is my connection to my mother and… how I was brought up,” said Shapiro. “The words say something to everybody differently.
“My mother loved the idea of starting a conversation.
“I would like people to think of Simply Eartha as a brand of accessories that say something because we all need to be given an opportunity to listen, be heard, stop, think and share with each other.
“Take it and make it your own.”
