Fisk Jubilee Singers

The internationally renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers® delivered an uplifting and stirring performance to a crowd of more than 1,000 on March 2 at First A.M.E. Church.

Under the direction of Dr. Paul Kwami, the 16-member a capella group rendered a collection of spirituals for which the group has won Grammy awards and recognized with the nation’s highest award, the National Medal of Arts, by President George Bush.  The Fisk Jubilee Singers® were the first group to bring the Negro spiritual to the world, which led to the gospel genre min music.

Fisk President, Dr. H. James Williams, Fisk First Lady Carole Williams, Dr. Edwina Harris Hamby, vice president for Institutional Advancement, and Anthony Jones, vice president for Enrollment Management attended the concert sponsored by the Los Angeles Fisk Alumni Association.  Comedian and actor Sheryl Underwood and Adai Lamar of KJLH served as the emcees.

For the final finale, the Fisk Alumni in the audience were invited to join the Jubilee Singers on stage to sing the school’s song, ‘The Gold & the Blue.’
